Hunting and Fauna: Udine, a wild boar crossed the Regional Road 354 that connects Latisana with Lignano causing an accident involving four vehicles.
The wild boar suddenly appeared and was hit by four cars on Saturday evening on the road that connects Lignano and Latisana. The accident occurred about ten minutes before 22pm when on the 354, just before the Pertegada traffic light, the flow of traffic was quite intense, many motorists returning from Lignano after a day spent at the beach. And it was only chance that at that moment there was no motorcyclist on the two lanes of the road leading to Latisana, otherwise the outcome of the accident, which saw no injuries, would have had very different consequences. The animal, an adult specimen weighing 120-140 kilos, suddenly appeared on the roadway and was hit by a first vehicle, then bounced off another car on the side and the two cars that followed were also involved in the 'impact. The carcass of the animal torn apart by numerous collisions with vehicles remained on the edge of the regional road 354, where traffic stopped, so much so that it was necessary to close the two lanes in the direction of Latisana for over a couple of hours. The four cars were severely damaged, but fortunately the drivers, albeit under shock, were not injured.
On site the carabinieri and the agents of the municipal police of Latisana, the firefighters of the seasonal detachment of Lignano and the guards of Federcaccia, on the spot with the coordinator Salvatore Salerno who took care of the recovery of the animal, delivered to the griffon center of Cornino through the staff of the provincial administration. "It could have been much worse given the size of the animal" states Salerno, coordinator of a group of guards that has about fifteen volunteers, ready to run from one end of the province to the other on the occasion of accidents caused by game, unfortunately a lot frequent.
«The Lower Friuli area is increasingly involved in the presence of wild boars, from Muzzana to Latisana, from Palazzolo to Ronchis - states Salerno - they are dangerous animals, especially in this period as the females have cubs and are particularly aggressive. We therefore recommend - adds Salerno - to moderate the speed and to move away from the litters in case of sighting ».
To understand the extent of the problem, it is sufficient to scroll through the data of the Province's Wildlife Hunting Resources Management Office relating to last year. As many as 224 accidents caused by roe deer, wild boar and wild animals on the roads, ever closer to inhabited centers; 130 practices relating to damage to crops, a real war bulletin. In any case, it is always possible to contact Federcaccia who provides for the recovery of dead or injured wild animals by calling the toll-free number 800961969, active every day from 7 to 19.
