Wild boars unleashed on corn, fodder and grains throughout the region. While the farmers are preparing for the flash mob of Ancona, Thursday 8 July in front of Palazzo Raffaello, the headquarters of the Marche region, the bulletin of the damages in the fields for the raids of the ungulates is extended with Jesi, Osimo, San Ginesio and Sibillini. In Vallesina, at the gates of the Ripabianca Oasis, there are herds with dozens of specimens and damage to wheat fields especially in those that fall within the protected area where animals proliferate undisturbed. In the Pignocco area, in Osimo, the animals move from Monte Conero to invade the corn, sorghum and sunflower fields. Between San Ginesio and Sarnano, in the province of Macerata, about two thirds of the threshing, some companies have raised the white flag and stopped growing corn, protein peas and field beans which, on the other hand, were an important alternative for crop rotations.
In the last two weeks from Amandola, Comunanza, Smerillo and Montemonaco have arrived dozens of reports of damage to wheat and barley close to harvest. Herds of 40 units have been sighted in the border area between the municipality of Amandola, Montefortino and Montemonaco. After the raids wild boars fall undisturbed within the protected area of the Sibillini Park. An extreme situation made even more dramatic by the drought. Emergency worsened during the lockdown and in the months spent in the red zone when the selection activity was inappropriately suspended. Direct testimonials from farmers will be at the center of Thursday's initiative to say #StopCinghiali.
The regional law of the Marche is at the forefront but it needs to be made fully operational to restore the balance of natural environments. A danger for ecosystems, for farms and also for citizens. According to the Asaps Observatory, the Marches are in sixth place in the national ranking for vehicle and animal accidents in which there were injuries between drivers and people on board: well 11, only 1 less than in 2019, despite the lower traffic due to the months of lockdown and all the restrictions on travel arranged to deal with the pandemic emergency. A statistic that does not include all "minor" accidents with damage to cars but not to people. The Regional Hunting Wildlife Plan, considering 2018, had counted about 3 per week throughout the region with wild boars second cause of accident (35%) behind roe deer (55%) (Source Coldiretti).
