Colombacci in Argentina: The beautiful experience of three friends discovering Argentina, accompanied on their journey by their trusted hunting agency.
When my two hunting companions and I decided to organize a hunting trip, we still didn't know exactly where the wind would take us. Luigi leaned towards Mongolia, while Davide was all projected towards Scotland for I don't know what memories of his teenage travels. In truth, in order to leave my job and my daily routine for a while, I would have gone anywhere! We are three Lombard hunters, we met at school and this trip, after 30 years of friendship, has done nothing but weld the relationship: I really recommend it to everyone.
It was while leafing through an online newspaper of the sector that Argentina jumped into our head, told as the promised land of every hunter: rich in vegetation, practically uninhabited given its surprising extension, endowed with a variety of game that literally leaves us uninhabited. mouth open.
You can devote yourself to hunting partridges, geese, wood pigeons, turtle doves and more. For this we contacted a well-known hunting travel agency, which organizes hunting trips in Argentina and the project became reality in no time at all.
The period during which it was possible for us to organize the trip was quite large: between 1 May and 15 August, but in the end we reached a compromise: all three of us freed ourselves by the end of May, and rifle in shoulder and dog at the side we lived an unforgettable adventure. Normally, as in our case, the arrival is expected in Buenos Aires where someone was already waiting for us: better this way. During this trip we decided not to really think about anything!
Both me and my teammates liked Argentina: and who would have thought that we would have lived this adventure together? Our destination was Cordoba, ideal for hunting turtledoves and wood pigeons. The surrounding area and the whole province are characterized by beautiful agricultural plains in which we have been told that corn, wheat, sorghum, sunflower and soy are grown. Here hunting is allowed from April to July and from August to February and I must admit, it gives a lot of satisfaction, especially if you have the foresight to be accompanied by a fabulous pointer or a miraculous English setter, dogs that make hunting if possible even more enjoyable.
The beautiful plains of which I have just told are the ideal place of pasture for the wood pigeons of the area, also because most of the times the fields are a few beats of wings from small and large natural and artificial lakes. I, lucky as usual, during my hunting days I immediately formed a certain bond with some centuries-old olive trees within which many pigeons used to gather: on the other hand I know very well that the olive is one of the favorite foods of these delicious birds and when I spotted the olive trees, I went without fail; the maxim seems to be valid for both Italian and Argentine wood pigeons.
Of course, the hunting techniques do not vary much: if you choose to fly to Argentina to hunt wood pigeons you must still have clothing with you that allows you to blend in with the surroundings, even better if good built hunting posts are available. ad hoc. In our case, not only were they present, but each station provided the lucky hunter with fresh soft drinks, a chair and cartridges upon request.
Obviously, wood pigeon hunting is not the only possible one. On the spot they spoke very highly of the hunt for turtledoves which is also particularly practiced in the province of Cordoba given that it is estimated that there are about 50 million specimens. In this case, hunting is open all year round as the abundance of the bird makes it particularly unwanted by citizens and farmers. We are told that this army of turtledoves is able to consume about 20% of the cereals grown in the area. The best time for turtledove hunting is still that between August and February when the birds frequently move towards the feeders making themselves particularly visible.
Santa Fè, on the other hand, is a province specialized in hunting ducks and partridges and by visiting the areas crossed by the Paranà river you can quickly understand why: rice fields, mouths, and beautiful lagoons give life to a real paradise for hunters and fishermen. At least this is how it has been described to me since I have not yet had the good fortune to visit the province and to try my hand at hunting the ducks and partridges that seem to abound in the area. The next hunting trip will in any case be directed towards the area, especially as to hunt partridges, which normally hide in immense alfalfa meadows or cereal fields, the use of Breton or Pointer capable of identifying small partridges is recommended. locals.
The advice I give to all those who have decided to live this adventure is to rely on a serious tour operator: from this point of view we have not had any problems. The travel agency we have chosen, operating throughout the Argentine territory, has allowed us to personalize and fully experience our holiday, providing us not only with professionalism, but also an exquisite welcome and an excellent knowledge of the places.
Having said that to me, Luigi and Davide, we just have to wish you a very happy journey to discover Argentina.
