The fifteenth edition of the "Sagra dei Cavati nel tegamino" will take place in Statigliano di Roccaromana, in the province of Caserta, on 5 and 6 July 2014. Lots of local products to be enjoyed in the open air.
The gnocchi festival, the “cavati”, cooked in a pan is accompanied by other typical products, dishes and local wine from Statigliano. Tradition and genuineness are the characteristics of these evenings of village festivals dedicated entirely to its Patron Saint Margaret of Antiochia VM. There is a particular devotion to this saint who on July 20 is remembered in many Italian cities. The people from Statigliano meet and organize a week of celebrations. The young people of the Committee are more involved, leaving their daily commitments to devote themselves to organizing the party. The preparations begin a month earlier during the meetings, between a coffee and another, a quarrel and a laugh, the group plans the evenings, chooses the dishes, the folkloristic or ethnic groups, the dates and the roles. on July 20. The previous Saturday and Sunday are always the days dedicated to the "cavati rend 'u tianiegliu" festival, the "tianiegliu" is the clay pan that was used to cook the sauce with sausage in the past, today, in its size smaller is the clay bowl in which the gnocchi are served.
The sausage that the people from Statigliano offer for this occasion is made with pork raised by local farmers, even the tomato sauce that will season everything is homemade. They are products that people offer in honor of the Saint and the young people of the committee cook them on the evenings of the festival. The gnocchi are hand-made by the local grandmothers who gather and together spend a whole day "digging" the gnocchi which are then stored in the refrigerator for the two days prior to the festival.
The evenings preceding the solemn feast are very demanding for the young people of Statigliano, they strive and work tirelessly until late at night. Their goal is to make known the tradition and charm of their village, to enliven and shake the tranquility of the small mountain environment for a while with dances, music, games and liveliness. A country of very few souls, young and old, who in these days get tired without feeling the weight, run around the alleys of the village in search of materials to set up food and wine stands, prepare sweets and typical pancakes to offer to the committee for the evenings party.
Everything takes place according to the patron saint St. Margaret, the proceeds from the feast will be used for the restructuring of the Church or to buy new furnishings or, to renew the sacred vestments or for other religious purposes. There is always a need to be addressed and .. so all the commendable work is done…. “For Santa Margherita”, as the guys on the committee usually say, and for them this is the only gratification of so many days and nights of work.
In Statigliano, the simplicity of the past still lives and the locals are proud of it and try to keep intact, despite some flash of modernity, the tradition and the memory of ancient culinary and cultural customs. Many are the people who from different cities and towns of the region by now, knowing the typical products of the place, flock to the evenings to taste the gnocchi with a peasant flavor and of the past, to taste the polenta or pancotto prepared according to the recipes of grandmothers, to breathe fresh and healthy mountain air that smells of hay and freshly mown grass.
Tradition, religion and nature combine to make Statigliano a destination for many foreigners and villagers from the nearby villages who come to crowd and fill the streets of the town from the early hours of the evening. For lovers of culture and history, it is possible to take walks to visit the historic centers, the numerous churches and castles of the neighboring villages or go hiking in the mountains to admire the beautiful panorama from above that extends to the surrounding valleys.
