Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th February 2012 in Ottati (SA), the 23rd edition of the Sfrionzola and Salciccia Paesana festival is held.
the Pro Loco of Ottati with the partnership of the Municipality of Ottati, the Province of Salerno, the Campania Region, the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park, the Alburni Mountain Community and the Aquara Cooperative Credit Bank, organizes the XXIII ° "Sfrionzola Festival and the country sausage ”which is one of the best known and most crowded festivals in the area.
The aim is to rediscover the most traditional flavors of our land such as this typical dish "the Sfrionzola" - small pieces of selected pork with pickled peppers - which, in the past, was cooked on the occasion of the killing of the pig to celebrate one of the few days of abundance of the poor families of farmers and breeders of our country.
For years this initiative has been an opportunity to promote the excellent salami and hams of Ottati (Sa) produced with techniques that have their roots in the culinary traditions handed down from father to son.
During the event, you can taste a series of typical dishes including: "cavatielli" with sauce enriched with pork, sausage and broccoli, pizza with frittole, typical sweets and many other local specialties. All will be accompanied by excellent local wine and lots of popular music.
The two evenings of the festival constitute a more unique than rare opportunity for tourists who will visit the alleys of the historic center embellished by the wonderful noble portals and adorned by the paintings of the permanent outdoor painting exhibition.
The local economy and the winter tourist offer benefit from the placement of this initiative in a period, such as the beginning of February, the month in which we celebrate the Patron Saint, San Biagio, combining the sacred and the profane. The festival, therefore, becomes an indispensable opportunity for local artisans to promote and sell their products to the numerous tourists who crowd the food and exhibition stands.
The Pro Loco of Ottati, the organizing body of the event, which takes care with much affection and thriftiness, pays homage to all guests with the reduction on the ticket for the entrance to the Castelcivita Caves complete with tourist guide, only 9 km away from our village. The Castelcivita Caves are one of the largest and best known speleological complexes in southern Italy with its 1700m tourist route.
The territory of the Alburni, a mountain range that overlooks us with its Monte Alburno about 1742 meters high, is rich in history and culture. In this regard, for fans there is the opportunity to visit the Caves of San Michele Arcangelo in Sant'Angelo a Fasanella, Roscigno Vecchia (medieval village inhabited only by a person linked to his origins).
Of no less importance is the Fasanella River which delimits the Fasanella Valley, a valley that housed all the inhabitants who then, following the attacks by Federico Barbarossa, then forced to flee, went to constitute the various villages (Ottati, Sant'Angelo in Fasanella, Corleto Monforte, Bellosguardo) where we had the pleasure of growing up and that we love so much today.
While for nature lovers you can visit the only naturalistic museum in southern Italy located in the Municipality of Corleto Monforte with the presence of about 50.000 specimens of every breed and species.
