As announced in recent hours by the association Arch Hunting, the Ministry of Health has decided to disseminate a brochure that must be evaluated with extreme care. It is a document edited and drawn up by the General Directorate of Animal Health and Veterinary Medicines on the African swine fever, a topic that is always very current. What do you read specifically?
The text leaves no room for doubt: "At present (the end of the 2018), outbreaks of African swine fever have been recorded in pigs and wild boars in countries such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, while in Belgium and the Czech Republic only wild boars were affected.
In this context the figure of the hunter is inserted who, as a frequenter and connoisseur of the wild habitat, can undoubtedly contribute to monitoring the health of wild animals, playing a key role in reporting the presence of dead boars (what is known as passive surveillance), while carrying out specific sampling on hunted wild boars (the so-called active surveillance). The timely detection of the disease can indeed allow the competent authorities to implement quickly and efficiently all those health measures aimed at limiting their spread and extinguishing outbreaks as quickly as possible ".
