La Marche region activate theCrisis unit for the emergency of the African swine fever (Psa), after the first checks of the contagion in Italy, which took place in Piedmont and Liguria. The regional council has approved the establishment of the body to coordinate monitoring activities of the PSA and to report, to the same Board, the measures to be adopted. The Crisis Unit will consist of Regional Departments for Health, Economic Development and Civil Protection and already on Wednesday it will meet for a first preliminary coordination meeting. The members will be the Umbria and Marche zooprophylactic institute, the regional veterinary services and Asur, the wildlife sector and the regional ecological network, the provincial police and the forest police.
The involvement of the interested categories is also foreseen (agricultural, hunting, environmental) and the social partners involved. It will work in close liaison with the Ministry of Health, in harmony with the National and Marche 2021 Psa Plans and the 2021 Wild Boar Management Memorandum of Understanding. "African swine fever is a highly contagious viral disease which only affects pigs and wild boars. Although not transmissible to humans, it could have heavy economic repercussions on the livestock sector and the agri-food industry, with lethality rates that can reach 90 percent - Carloni recalls - As soon as the report from the Ministry of Health arrived, on Friday 7 January we immediately summoned the emergency technical table to assess the problem.
We also sent right away an information note to all hunters, farmers and interested social categories to indicate the precautions to be taken and to report any sightings of dead or sick wild boar to the Wild Animal Recovery Center ". A key element to contain the spread of Psa, highlights the vice president, "consists in the rapid localization of the infection in animal populations, through passive monitoring. As the Marche Region we had already activated targeted actions to contain the wild boar population. We will continue on this front, simultaneously adopting all the preventive and counteracting actions of the A dog".
