Compak World Championships, the Italians Spada and Bortot World Champions.
The Compak World Championship ended, which took place on the Banamell platforms in Cordoba (ESP) and in which 300 shooters representing 15 countries took part. The blue delegation, led by the National Team Selector, Veniero Spada, returned to the country with a more than satisfactory loot: 4 gold medals, with the attached world title, 2 silver and 2 bronze.
The limelight certainly belongs to the Juniors. Michael Spada di Fabro (TR) climbed to the top step of the world podium earning, with 187/200, a splendid gold and the world title. Behind him Marco Battisti from Pesaro conquered the place of honor with 186 putting the silver medal around his neck. For them, together with the other blue in the race Renato Vitelli from Matera, 17th with 168, also the title of World Team Champions with a total score of 541/600, ahead of their Spanish colleagues, second with 536, and those of Danes, third with 529.
The performance of the Veterans was also excellent. Claudio Bortot from Treviso became World Champion with 187/200 with four targets ahead of his direct rival, the French Loyen second with 183. Too bad for Ferruccio Morelli from Livorno who with his 175 points stopped in fourth position. Eighth the other Italian in the race, Giovanni Zamboni from Brescia, with 173. The performance of the three blues guaranteed Italy the World Team Champion title with 525/600. A bronze and a silver also came from the Super Veterans sector.
Ottorino Rovetta from Brescia managed to get on the third step of the podium earning the bronze medal with 166/200 behind the Swiss Reyna, first with 173, and the French Wagner, second with 167. Rovetta and the other two Azzurri in the race, Marino Pagnottini from Perugia, 5th with 159, and Renato Franceschet from Treviso, 12th with 150, earned the silver medal for Teams with a total score of 475/600.
Ahead of them only the French team, first with 476. Finally, the last medal came from the ranking reserved for Ladies. Martina Maruzzo of Vicenza, 4th with 171/200, Katia Vaghi of Milan, 7th with 169, and Erica Pucci of Livorno, 25th with 144, won the bronze medal for Teams with the total socre of 484/600, behind the French colleagues, first with 511, and the Spanish ones, second with 508.
