Data on the Paduan park
More than 3.000 wild boars killed in the area Euganean Hills Park in 2022. A very important figure, considering that in recent times the killings have been, on average, 2.000 specimens per year. “Now it is necessary to give continuity to these operations by the authorized selecontrollers -is the invitation of Cia Padova-. Any episodes of poaching, on the other hand, must be nipped in the bud by the competent authorities". “By now the uncontrolled presence of ungulates has become a national emergency -underlines the provincial president, Luca Trivellato-. However, it is not now, but for several years that the CIA has been submitting this particular question to the most appropriate forums".
A situation out of control
Wild boars, with their passage alone, risk jeopardizing an entire agricultural year, with enormous damage to farmers. “Today we have reached a point of no return, we cannot afford for the situation to get out of hand -adds the president of Cia Padova again-. The keyword, then, is to give continuity to the catches, in the manner prescribed by current legislation. This is a job that must be carried out by the Euganean Hills Park, the Veneto Region and the Province of Padua". For some time, moreover, CIA has been asking to amend Law 157 of 1992 called "Regulations for the protection of warm-blooded wildlife and for hunting".
Management and not protection
“The basic purpose of the legislation, more than thirty years old, is already indicated in the title - Trivellato specifies-. In the current historical context it is necessary to move from the principle of protection to that of management. Ungulates have become so numerous, especially in the Park area, but they have also arrived in the plains, that they must be managed, and not protected, within the balance of the entire ecosystem". Among the other requests of the CIA, "we need to proceed expeditiously with a census of these animals on the hills. At least 10.000 heads are estimated, but the figure is certainly calculated by default. Agricultural entrepreneurs - concludes the president of Cia Padova - demand immediate answers to try to conduct their activities in safety". (Source CIA)
