The members of the European Parliament have expressed their views on the EU proposal on international guidelines as regards trade and traceability of hunting trophies. In addition, they rejected another request that proposed to ban the hunting of so-called "trophy game" and the sale of related trophies. From 24 September to 5 October next there will be the important thing international conference on world wildlife trade in Johannesburg, in South Africa.
The members themselves therefore wanted to reassure us about the trophy game hunting, recalling how it is already sufficiently controlled as regards sustainability and legality. Among other things, the trophy hunt itself was considered sustainable and properly managed, as well as an effective conservation tool for support rural communities and generate profits to invest in conservation itself.
Karl-Heinz Florenz, number one of theBiodivdersity, Hunting and Rurality Intergroup he also underlined how this hunting activity has been secured, obviously referring to sustainable and legal hunting. FACE (Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the European Union) thanked Florenz on behalf of the community of hunters and conservationists. The text of the resolution will now be put to the vote, scheduled for next September.
