La Third Commission of the Legislative Assembly of Umbria approved this morning, Tuesday 23 May 2017, the hunting calendar 2017-2018. The text will be published shortly, and will then become fully operational. The Italian Federation of Hunting, Enalcaccia, Arci Caccia and ANUUMigratoristi had suggested some marginal changes, but were not accepted. As explained by Fernanda Cecchini, regional councilor for hunting, the document was submitted to theISPRA and the Institute gave its favorable opinion.
There are not many differences compared to the calendars of the past years, and the indications of the European Union have been taken into consideration accordingly any appeal is excluded. The Umbria Region does not believe that it has to change what has been decided for the closure of the quail hunt and not even with regard to the game bags. Then there is a petition, signed by almost 400 citizens, which concerns pre-openings, but Cecchini herself explained that there are no valid reasons for a change.
The minor changes refer to the closure of the quail harvest, to be reported as of 31 December, and to the numbers of the game boxes (10 larks and 50 quails). Finally, the petition refers to the possible single opening to all huntable species, starting with the next one September 17th, without forgetting a possible extension for other species.
