Having learned of the decision, taken without the prior involvement of the community and local authorities, to evaluate the presence on our territory of a site identified by the Government as a possible storage site for radioactive waste, we immediately say our NO loud and clear. We do not know the engineering and geological considerations that led the technicians to make this choice, and they do not interest us; certainly there was no participation in the decision-making process of the population, of representatives of local institutions and it seems also of the Region.
Citizens of the Province of Siena, between the Crete, Val di Chiana and Val d'Orcia, certainly have the right to know why they have chosen a protected area with stringent landscape restrictions and the presence of Unesco sites. A wealth of the country, destined for high-quality food production: excellences such as wine, oil, cheeses and thermal baths that certainly need no introduction.
This is the real green economy! For us hunters, who live and guard the territory, the health of the environment and people are a principle, an indispensable value. We will oppose this inappropriate choice in total harmony with the citizens, who are organizing themselves, with the agricultural entrepreneurs, with the Mayors, who are fighting with the pride of representing a community with fair environmental principles, which has preserved this landscape intact, contrasting pollution and speculation.
Attacking one of the most “intact” territories of Tuscany, a world tourist destination, is an economic, cultural and social mistake. Our battle finds the interest of other Hunting Associations, which together with Agricultural and Environmental Associations, ATCs, institutions and civil society, make our NO heard loud and clear to the Government and Parliament. Know where the hunters are.
