Cases in which dog killings are found are now frequent during hunting and not only by wolves now widespread in the our woods and in our countryside as well as in peri-urban and urban areas. A problem that is linked to other aspects relating to the management of the species and to the interconnections with human activities and other animal species. In this regard, last in order of time, the letter sent to regional and local institutions by the president of SIPS - Italian Pro-hound Society of Massa and Carrara - Gionni Fiorentini.
We publish below the text of the letter: “A few days ago the news of a new dramatic fact who saw the killing of a Maremma hound by a pack of wolves. In this case, the tragic event took place during a hunt for wild boar in the Fivizzanese area. There Prosegugio of Massa Carrara believes that it is important to make your voice heard on an issue that unfortunately is becoming increasingly common. Our Association protects all dog breeds to follow and is clearly in close contact with all forms of hunting that take place with the help of our beloved auxiliaries (hunting wild boar, hare and fox).
We want to express our concern that comes directly from the numerous associates. We believe that if no action is taken and the "wolf" situation is remedied there is a risk of abandoning hunted hunting which is the only form of hunting that manages to concretely contrast the increase in wild boar, a result that absolutely cannot be obtained with selection hunting. Who believes that the hunted only creates displacement and diffusion of the wild boar it does not deal with the real behavior of the wild which in any case, even if "moved", always returns to its environment of origin, this is not theory but an incontrovertible fact.
The wolf problem is getting bigger and bigger, especially for the crescendo of attacks on livestock which do nothing but demoralize and drive away even young agricultural entrepreneurs who abandon this activity with consequent degradation of the state of the land, pastures, etc., a factor that is also reflected on the hunting activity as they are certainly affected by the presence of sedentary game (pheasant, hare etc.) that no longer find a hospitable habitat. The defense of the forms of hunting with the follow-up dog is fundamental for the continuation of the hunting activity and for the whole world of dog lovers. with the hound. We believe that those in charge must face the question and remedy the dangers deriving from increasingly frequent encounters with wolves increase with each passing day, also due to the very rapid expansion that this wild is having in our woods.
It is believed by many that the wolf contrasts the expansion of the Boar, reality says instead that it is increasingly evident the anomalous behavior of wild boars which, threatened by the presence of the wolf, are more and more often found in large herds close to small inhabited centers, with negative consequences for both hunting and hunting. for the inhabitants themselves, our point of view instead is that the number of wild boars should be contrasted primarily with an increase in the duration of the hunting. However, it is not up to us to find solutions but it is necessary to report a situation that now seems to be "out of control", we believe it is right to have some answers. " (source: CCT).
