It is encountered both at beauty shows and at utility, hunting or agily competitions. His aptitudes for searching for people, drugs and explosives are well known. And most of all, it is noted as an appreciated companion of a lot of families. A multi-faceted dog: the Retrievers.
The Retriever Group consists of 6 spokes distinct from each other: flatcoated, Labrador, Golden, Chesapeake Bay, Curly Coated e Nova Scotia Duck Tolling. The best known remain the first two but all have the wonderful character that has now brought them to the fore. They are born as Working Dog (working dogs), a very important aspect for Retriever breeds that should not be forgotten. The famous Richard A. Wolters, American, Retrievers trainer, author of numerous books, coined a saying that describes the nature, temperament, character of the Retrievers: "if you want to make a Retriever happy have him bring back".
Those who are at the first experience of this beautiful coexistence, and want to undertake one of the work disciplines that are suitable for Retrievers, can choose between:
- hunting and retrieval training, with relative competitive activity (field trials, working tests);
- civil protection patents and related voluntary work (rescue groups in the event of natural disasters);
- agility dogs competitions.
But the better than themselves the Retrievers give it in the hunt for which they possess an innate instinct. Hunting is the discipline that best enhances not only the natural aptitudes of this breed, but also that it even involves emotionally and instinctively the dog. Only those who have undertaken these activities may have seen the dog shiver as soon as you put on that jacket with which you go to the countryside to do retrieval training or game hunting. The eagerness with which he looks for a wild in the bushes, the elegance and pride with which he brings it back.
On the other hand, Retriever means retriever and this is the predominant attitude for which for more than a hundred years this breed has been bred and selected.
