The historic ARIA racing boat (8m SI class of 1935) of Serena Galvani, president of the ARIE Association (Association for the Recovery of Vintage Boats), officially began the celebrations of its 80th birthday last weekend.
The shipowner organized a singular sail, intensely experienced in the name of wind and freedom, combining two ancient Arts, that of the Seafaring and that of Frederick II's Falconry - of which she is very passionate - to celebrate the excellence of two historical memories still live today. Six falconers and an aquilier with their raptors were guests of honor on AIR, forming a very special crew that sailed in the Gulf of Panzano, between Duino and Sistiana (Trieste). Sun and wind, with gusts up to 18 knots, were the magnificent conductors of a splendid sailing in which the birds of prey, steered "in hand" by their falconers, behaved as helmsman and tactician in the regatta, instinctively opening the wings at every gust in search of the right gust of wind, just as the wise men of the Sea, conditioned by the wind, look for the right set-up for the sails.
Alchemy catalyst of this extraordinary AIR adventure, the element that has allowed sea professionals to fly along with the birds of prey, masters of the wind, on the edge of the waves. Wings like sails, sails like wings, in short, in the name of that freedom which, for men and birds of prey, is the extreme synthesis of the soul's flights beyond the infinite horizon. A toast to ARIA for his 80th birthday and he returns home, aware, everyone, of having enriched himself internally with something that goes beyond emotion and that will remain forever. Indeed, that is already an indelible legend.
The initiative is part of a project that will see ARIA and the falconers united in a photographic book edited by Serena Galvani, official photographer of many falconry gatherings (https://www.serenagalvani.com), and by Riccardo Camusso (https://www.camusso-ribelli.com).
