Libera Caccia Umbria organized a simulated fox hunt in Spina di Campello sul Clitunno, in the province of Perugia, on 29 June.
A beautiful day at the end of June and the mountains surrounding Campello sul Clitunno were the backdrop for the fox hunt organized by the regional secretariat of the ANLC and the pro loco of the hamlet of Spina, which was held on Sunday 29 June. Una fox hunting simulated of course, where "the fox" is a knight with the classic red jacket to which the fake tail of the fawn animal is attached, which the other knights must grab and tear to be able to say that they have killed the fox. But the fox is very skilled and cunning, and the tail is snapped and not torn completely. So the first prize is won by the master Loriano Fiori, who is an electrical engineer in his life, but has a great passion for horses. The second and third ex aequo prize went to Roberta Di Marco and Angelo Pontani.
To deliver the prizes the Count Ranieri di Campello, a noble by birth, who, as in any self-respecting fox hunt, could not miss and the new Spoleto councilor for public works Angelo Loretoni. The 25 participating riders received typical local products offered, among others, by one of the first oil mills in Campello, the Antico Frantoio Carletti, where cold pressing is still carried out. And, after a delicious breakfast of bread and pork offered by the two organizing associations, and the competition, a pleasant lunch, cooked by the skilled hands of men and women from the pro loco della Spina.
This is an important event of Fox hunting, now in its third edition. Which precedes, in time, the organization of the traditional Truffle Festival whose 31st edition will be held in Spina di Campello from 1st to 10th August next.
“Events like these - says Lando Loretoni, regional president of the National Free Hunting Association - bring people closer to the territory and the traditions of our ancestors”. “This territory - explains the president of Pro Loco Spina di Campello, Santino Fortunati - has an important agricultural history. Once transhumance took place here, but now only 40 people permanently reside in this ancient village and many activities have been lost ".
