The association Friends of Scolopax, which brings together naturalist hunters who are passionate about woodcock, has updated the data relating to this species as regards the first and second decade of this month of December. The season started in a bad way, but now there seems to be a recovery. There have also been seasons with few appearances in the past, but the association recalled the bizarre weather this year, which has had considerable repercussions on the phenology of migration.
Friends of Scolopax, however, believe that any thesis on a negative and global reproductive condition woodcock is not at all effective. The second decade of December showed a better presence of birds, even if the monthly index is 1.40, while last year it was higher (1.63 to be precise).
The invitation, however, is to reflect in a cautious and shrewd way, the only way to make credibility and serenity triumph. The important thing, according to the association, is to do not give up on providing information. Right now we are talking about woodcocks with worrying phrases, as well evidenced by the appeal launched by Umbrian regional section of the Arci Caccia.
