"No to the abolition of hunting, stop demonizing the hunters". This was stated by the regional councilor Mara Piccin (Forza Italia), referring to the campaign to promote a referendum on hunting. “Who arises against hunting, relying on aspects that are already the subject of stringent regulations, which the vast majority of hunters respect - continues Piccin -, forgets the role of hunters for the protection of biodiversity, also recognized by the Constitutional Court in some recent judgments ".
"Control of wildlife, in particular of large ungulates such as wild boars - he continues -, means protecting the ecosystem, preserving biodiversity, but also to prevent significant damage to agriculture, as well as serious road accidents and dangers to the safety of people. There are those who argue that hunting is not an effective method of dealing with these problems: I argue the opposite, because the impossibility of going to their roots lies precisely in certain limitations to the hunting activity. And there is no point in continuing to hypothesize alternative methods for the control of wildlife which, in fact, prove to be ineffective and expensive ”. “For some time I have argued that the hunting world must be fully involved in wildlife control activities, alongside the Forest Rangers - adds Piccin -.
For this reason, in the years of my regional council activity, I presented some legislative proposals, including a national one which, having arrived in Parliament after having received the approval of the regional council, it was not discussed for purely ideological reasons against hunting, which instead is the only efficient and ecological solution to an out-of-control proliferation of certain species ". “To recognize this assumption - concludes Piccin - there is also the revolutionary orientation of the Constitutional Court which, in particular with two sentences of this year, confirmed in black and white the positive role of hunting activities in favor of the environment and biodiversity ".
