Hunting and Fauna: Marche, ATC MC2 participates in the scientific project “Scolopax Overland 2013? on the migration of the Woodcock, a project to unravel its mysteries.
The Macerata 2 Hunting Territorial Area participates this year in the scientific project called "Scolopax Overland 2013", in collaboration with the University of Padua (Department of Biology) which has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Association "Amici di Scolopax "And with the company of the Veneto Region" Veneto Agriculture ". The research project tends to have more and more detailed information on the migration of the woodcock species, aimed at its conservation in full compliance with the European Directive 2009/147 and Law 157/1992.
For the realization of the project in the Province of Macerata, a woodcock was captured in the Restocking and Capture Area established in the municipality of Mogliano (Mc), present the technicians qualified by ISPRA to carry out the catches for scientific purposes, a technician from ISPRA (Higher Institute for the Protection of the Environment), those responsible for the management of the Mogliano Restocking and Capture Area, the Spanish capture technicians, the person in charge of the ATC MC 2 for the project, the responsible for the University of Padua and the “Amici di Scolopax” Association. The woodcock has been equipped with a satellite transmitter that allows it to be monitored from the wintering areas to the nesting sites.
A similar project in 2012 made it possible to verify that a woodcock has traveled 2900 kilometers, crossing six countries and arriving at the nesting site on April 27th. From the first monitoring it was confirmed that the breeding area goes beyond the European area, located west of the Urals. Once again the Management Committee of the ATC MC 2 with the full collaboration of the representatives of hunters, farmers, environmentalists and institutions works actively for the management, protection and conservation of all wildlife; moreover, for the woodcock species it has planned and financed specific environmental improvements, hoping for the maximum collaboration for the success of the same both from the hunting, agricultural and environmental world.
