The hunting season began quietly in a large part of the province of Brescia, only in Valtrompia i hunters they filled the game bags. The heat exhausts the dogs and drives away the prey in the plains. Valcamonica trusts in a good thrush step. In Valsabbia many have given up on jokes.
The tail blow of the summer ruined the opening of the hunting season. And yesterday, due to the heat, the Brescia side-by-side shotguns returned home with their game bags half-empty. The only one to give real satisfaction was the hare hunting. And the president of Federcaccia Marco Bruni invites us to reflect on agriculture that is not very respectful of the environment as much as of human health. The head guard of the ATC Dario Saleri speaks of "soft opening", even on the disciplinary front.
So much so that until the early afternoon in the plains there was only one report for failure to respect the distances from a state road. In truth, there was also a report from the Curno della Forestale power station, which communicated the presence of shotguns in the Park of the hills near a town, but when the guards arrived they could no longer find anyone.
Saleri walked around the Single Territorial Area all morning without finding concentrations of hunters. "Either they spread out really well or there weren't many," he comments. In any case, the day passed without incident. "The migratory was not seen - confirms Saleri -, some ducks, some blackbirds and some thrushes in the foothills huts ». But these too must have been specimens that had nested on the spot.
The dry season had a big impact on the birds, and only "for the hares it was a good season - he adds -, one or two specimens had them all". Therefore, a routine Sunday for the thirty fish-hunting guards. Not for dogs worn out by the heat. In zone A of the Alps, the one with the greatest protection, the go-ahead for side-by-side shots will start on 3 October. It was possible to shoot in zone B, but not even there, in Valsabbia, were few to take up the rifle.
In addition to the hares, however, pheasants, partridges and wood pigeons were killed. But few examples. In Vallecamonica Gianluca Cominini, a hunting guard who, together with Giacomo Trotti and the head of sector Antonio Galli, follows the area, explains that mainly the hounds have been seen.
According to the sheds, however, a "good pace" of thrushes is starting. On the contrary, with the very hot day and the breeze that got up in the hottest hours, in the Valley "it was difficult to find the hares". A muted debut, mirroring a declining movement also due to external factors. "The crops are too far ahead - explains Bruni -, the corn has already been cut and the countryside appeared desolately bald".
The new CAP, then, has banned monoculture on properties over a certain number of hectares, and the Brescians have diversified with soy, which "is still in place and it is forbidden to go there even if all the game has taken refuge there". Saleri corrects the… shot, and points out that in the Bassa «there is still a lot of corn under cultivation».
But the results of the debut day do not change. And for the president of Federcaccia, the way of cultivating the land not only penalizes hunters, but "with the massive use of herbicides compromises the environment with consequences also in terms of social costs".
