A change to the Hunting Calendar of the Province of Chieti extends the hunting season but is considered by the Greens as a real "attack on wildlife species".
The Province of Chieti has decided to extend the Hunting Calendar until 9 February 2012, causing the immediate reaction of the environmentalists, triggering the controversy especially against the President of the Province, Enrico Di Giuseppantonio.
First of all to contest the decision of the Province is the group leader of the Greens in the Regional Council, Walter Caporale, which states "The measure would satisfy pro-hunting councilors, putting particularly vulnerable animal species at serious risk because of the cold".
What the Corporal refers to is point sixteen chapter B of the 2011-2012 Hunting Calendar on "Huntable species and hunting periods" according to which "The Provinces on the basis of data in their possession subject to the binding opinion of ISPRA, Istituto Superiore Superiore and Environmental Research, they may postpone the closing of the hunting period to 9 February 2012 for some species".
The species referred to in the document are the jay, the wood pigeon and the hooded crow for which hunting is allowed in temporary fixed stalking mode and without using the dog. Furthermore, the document still reads, "The Provinces also regulate the methods of access for non-resident hunters for this period".
According to Corporal, "Hunting from stalking only in combat is not a guarantee of biological respect for all other species for which hunting is prohibited"Therefore the same corporal asked ISPRA directly" if in this period it is desirable to completely close the hunting activity in respect of particularly declining species ".
Finally concludes sarcastic Corporal "The next resolution of President Di Giuseppantonio will be to shoot the Red Cross to please the gunsmiths and the votes of the warmongers?".
