The question of the Mixed Group
The regional council of Emilia Romagna sheds light on the roe deer withdrawal plan hunting season 2023-2024 provides for the slaughter of 16 animals throughout the region. Councilor Giulia Gibertoni (Mixed Group) asks for it in a question in which she wants to know the updated overall data on roe deer killings in the 5 wildlife-hunting seasons from 2018 to 2023 "also complete with the censuses carried out".
specimens to be killed
The group leader of the Misto also asks if the junta "does not consider that authorizing the killing of 16.000 specimens of roe deer on the regional territory, in the current wildlife hunting season, without a real census of the regional population of the species does not constitute a simple gift to the hunters' lobby ”. Finally, the councilor turns to the Region asking "whether it does not consider revising its policies for the containment of the regional roe deer population, finally putting an end to the hunting of this species and using intelligently and as a priority alternative control techniques that avoid its killing ”.
Plans from previous years
In 16 years, from 2002 to 2019, "a total of 227.331 roe deer specimens were killed" and the councilor believes that the 2023-2024 Plan" is the substantial re-proposition of the Plans of previous years, without even proposing any analysis or of data study or even simply of a real census”. Proposing the Plan again without variations, concludes Gibertoni, with numbers that could be a fifth of the roe deer population, "avoids concentrating the debate on the real solutions, allowing, on the other hand, the Emilia-Romagna Region the possibility of flattering, every year, the powerful hunters' lobby, offering them 15-20 thousand roe deer to kill” (source: Emilia Romagna Region).
