Saturday XNUMXst June to Aymavilles at the hall of the Unité des Communes Valdotaines Grand Paradis, the conference "Ibex project: current events and perspectives for the ibex in the Italian Alps" organized by Uncza was held, FIdC Aosta Valley, Regional Committee for hunting management and with the patronage of the CIC, the Autonomous Region of Valle d'Aosta and the Grand Paradis mountain community. After the greetings of the numerous civil authorities present it was done a broad picture of the species since the rock times by prof. DeMartin who retraced the historical events from the first testimonies of presences, to move on to his own near extinction in the late 1800s and up to the current amounts.
We then talked about the presence of the ibex in Valle d'Aosta, the results of the monitoring carried out over the years by hunters throughout the region, in collaboration with the Administration and with the Forest Rangers, outside the protected areas, underlining the current consistency on the free territory which exceeds 3600 units, higher than those found in the Gran Paradiso Park. Dr. Bassano, veterinarian of Gran Paradiso National Park, then illustrated to those present the study projects carried out by the Park, in particular the genetic investigations carried out so far, highlighting the delicacy from the health point of view of the species, which it cannot be treated like other ungulates already subject to hunting.
Below Dr. A. Agreiter of the hunting and fishing office of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano exhibited the management system in South Tyrol in application of a provision of its statute, illustrating the sampling plans adopted, of which 75% dedicated to hunters and 25% subject to capture for reintroduction in suitable territories. At the end of the technical reports there was an intervention by the veterinarian M. Viglezio on the Ibex management in the Swiss Confederation, where, as in Austria and South Tyrol, hunting and its management based on stocks has been authorized for many years (and the species has a growing trend), in all of the Swiss Cantons. Finally, the proceedings closed with greetings and thanks to Dr. Sandro Flaim, president of Uncza, who with a full-bodied and passionate corollary wished that the important work carried out to draft the project is the scientific basis for developing new interesting hunting scenarios also in Italy and for a conscious management of the ibex species in the Alps as has been the case for decades in the neighboring Alpine countries.
By now we all know that the Ibex in Italy is no longer in danger of extinction; now it is NOT the case to insert it again in the huntable species having an IUA of 10% max 18% max; it could be possible to withdraw 5/6% of the annual profit increase, without affecting the population and touching the capital; but by withdrawing only the interest, since in the neighboring countries it is withdrawable ?????
