It was presented to the Management Board Members on Saturday afternoon of the Pian di Spagna and Lago di Mezzola Nature Reserve, the study of incidence drawn up by the OIKOS Institute of Milan, on the Management Plan of deer population in the SAC / SPA Nature Reserve. In the document, just over two hundred pages, the geographical and territorial classification of the Nature Reserve, the description of the Natura 2000 Sites - SACs-SPAs and above all the analysis of the evaluation of the direct connection of the planned interventions on the deer population and the need for the same for the correct management of the sites. A particular section is dedicated to the description of the individual interventions envisaged in the management plan of the deer population, the description of the likely impacts on the Sites as a whole, the assessment of the significance of the incidents, the mitigation and environmental integration measures.
"The study of incidence - explains the President Roberto Vignarca - comes as the final tool of the complex investigation put in place in 2020, for counteract the strong numerical increase in the deer population which frequents the protected area and which is assuming absolute numerical values and density such as to make it impossible to postpone the launch of initiatives aimed at ascertaining its environmental sustainability and carrying out the necessary corrections ". The incidence study is therefore an integral part of the Deer Population Management Plan, which also received a favorable opinion from ISPRA, the Higher Institute for Environmental Protection: an opinion that is mandatory, even if not binding. Next week, the documents will be approved by the Management Board of the Reserve Authority and transmitted to the Lombardy Region.
Un a result that will allow the start of the program of selection and removal of the garments for a naturalistic and ecological rebalancing of the territory of the Reserve. While waiting for the implementation of the environmental rebalancing program to be carried out, the Management Board recently approved the appraisals and evaluation forms of wildlife damage to agricultural crops in the first half of 2020, ascertain from the appointed agronomist. From which will follow, closely, the contextual liquidation of the same to the subjects and farms that have been damaged by the presence of wildlife. An answer to the territory and to the companies present and operating in the protected area, waiting for the implementation of appropriate measures for the resolution of the problems that will in any case require a three-year experimentation plan. The problems related to environmental and territorial management are and will continue to be among the priorities of the Reserve body: in fact, these days establishment of the Fauna Table.
