An important signature
On the initiative of the AIW President, dr. Aldo Giorgio Salvatori, and with the legal advice of the former President, avv. Giancarlo D'Aniello, last March 8 in Rome a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the General Command of the Forest Carabinieri. For the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-Food Unit Command of the Carabinieri, General CA Antonio Pietro Marzo signed the agreement, for the AIW the signature was affixed by the President dott. Aldo Giorgio Salvatori. The national councilor of the AIW Donna Virginia Massimo Lancellotti and the General of the Carabinieri Forestali D. Nazario Palmieri were present.
Environmental and wildlife conservation
The agreement provides for a wide range of interventions that can be achieved through actions that can be undertaken jointly in the field of environmental and wildlife conservation, and in particular: "studies, research, planning and scientific, technical and technological experimentation with particular reference to the knowledge , safeguard, conservation, dissemination and enhancement of biodiversity constituting the nation's natural and cultural heritage"; elaboration of scientific and popular tools functional to the management and enhancement of the Protected Areas that see the interest of the Carabinieri Corps”; "promotion for the designation in Italy of Wilderness territories (Savages) to be preserved in the state in which they have been preserved until today in defense of the territory, the landscape and the environment"; "technical-scientific support of a naturalistic nature to teaching and education activities for sustainability, information and environmental dissemination". Furthermore, "even outside of the cases" mentioned above "the Parties undertake to provide mutual collaboration in order to pursue and realize the interest of the community".
Wild natural world
From today the AIW will therefore be less alone in its battles for the defense of the wild natural world, a sign that the goodness of its goals is slowly progressing. This, however, not because they must necessarily be taken into consideration, but because in the environmental field they express wisdom and foresight, such as the Wilderness Areas, for example, considered the most just, liberal and democratic protected areas worldwide and guarantors of a perpetuity environment that, despite its various forms resulting from social and landed states, no other type of protected area has ever reached. A great Idea which perhaps not by chance originated and was applied precisely by the thoughts of men who depended on a Forestry Service, and who went down in history, before any other job or interest, such as "Foresters": Arthur Carhart, Aldo Leopold, Robert Marshall. The AIW is therefore proud to have signed the Memorandum of Understanding with that apparatus that was once the State Forestry Corps which, moreover, published the first ever Italian volume dedicated to Wilderness thought, in its then prestigious , “Collana Verde” (source: FIDC).
