Indicted by a motorist over against a wild boar, the Province of Vercelli it was sentenced both by the Justice of the Peace and by the ordinary Court to refund the damages. And so, the wildlife, in addition to causing significant damage to crops, it also ends up weighing on the public coffers in the event of an accident. And this despite the fact that it is clear that the public body can do very little to guarantee the safety of its road network since transit of wild boars or roe deer. The story that reached the news starts in April 2019 when a motorist, in transit on provincial 71 between Crevacuore and Serravalle Sesia, hits a wild boar that suddenly appeared on the road.
How it ended up for the animal is not known, but the motorist, for his part, instead complains of significant damage and turns to the Judge of Peace to obtain compensation. At first instance, the Justice of the Peace of Varallo declares the Province of Vercelli responsible for the accident and obliged to pay compensation for the sum of 4.733,12 €. A sentence honored by the public body that liquidates the sum, assumed in the meantime as an off-balance sheet debt, but nevertheless appealed by the Province which turns to the ordinary Court to ask for its reform. Even in this case, however, there is little to do: the Court of Vercelli rejects the appeal, condemning the public body to pay the legal costs.
And, again in the matter of traffic, another recent sentence condemned the same body to refund the damage to a motorist who, back in 2016, had had an accident on the Sp 31, due to the icy road surface. The woman, at kilometer 63, had lost control of the vehicle by going to collide with the guard rail. And, despite the Province having regularly assigned the anti-ice chloride spreading service, the Justice of the Peace called her to compensate the damages, jointly and severally with the contractor company: 4 thousand 69 euros plus court costs (Infovercelli24).
