For some time now the Municipality of Argenta, in the province of Ferrara, has issued an ordinance for cull the nutria near the canals and embankments. In particular, the mayor Antonio Fiorentini identified some sensitive areas, but an animal rights association had filed an appeal against this provision. It is about Animal Liberation, an acronym that was addressed to none other than the Council of State, only to collect everything in a short time.
The mayor said he was happy with this rethinking, given that it is necessary to understand how harmful the nutria is for the habitats of the Emilian municipality, without forgetting the risks for the local flora and fauna. Infrastructure is seriously compromised and crops can no longer support the voracity of rodents.
Among other things, there is a previous ordinance which has expired in these hours and which clearly illustrates the areas in which the otters are most widespread. The main reason for the withdrawal of the appeal was not explained, but the containment action may continue. These activities were suspended last April due to police operations to search for Igor, the Budrio killer still on the run.
