As announced byArch Hunting, is about to begin monitoring of woodcock in Umbria, an activity that will take place in collaboration with theBeccacciai Association of Italy and which is part of the “Ali d'Italia” project. Participation will be allowed to hunters who have already attended and passed the courses of at least 6 hours, to be precise, the lessons held by expert technicians and on ISPRA program. However, it does not matter that there has not been a similar participation in the past.
Monitoring is voluntary and will also involve dog lovers. The first phase will consist in the collection of the right wings, to be sent to the Regional Wildlife Observatory for the "reading" useful for ascertain the exact age. The second phase, on the other hand, is that of actual monitoring, in pre-established areas and with the pointing dog. Not all hunters who have delivered their wings, however, will be required to monitor.
The delivery of the wings will be checked until December 31st before proceeding with every activity. The survey units have been identified by Umbria Region together with the Beccacciai of Italy, all using the Umbrian hunter-detectors. Finally, the wings must be delivered to the area contact person or to the Forestry, Mountain, Naturalistic and Faunistic Systems Service.
