La Province of Alessandria seems to have found the possible solution to the damage caused by wild animals to agricultural crops and especially to vineyards. This is an extraordinary plan of killing of roe deer: Gianfranco Baldi, number one of the local authority, announced this provision during the meeting which was held at the Gavi Protection Consortium (it is an excellent Piedmontese white wine).
The plan is added to the killing that have already been planned by the individual Territorial Areas of Hunting, with the aim of enhancing the tools of protection and avoid increasing claims for compensation. The Piedmont Region is already analyzing it and we will also have to wait for the opinion of theISPRA (Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research).
The announcement came after understanding the emergency to be addressed: as the president of the Province explained, the mayors will have the opportunity to order the killing of roe deer in specific areas of the municipal area, even if the hunting period will be limited. The hunters who will enter the action will have to be suitably qualified. The winemakers are infuriated to say the least and the damage is incalculable. Wild boars also represent a concrete danger, but for now the culls have been scarce, which is why it was decided to activate the hunt also in January.
