The woods of the province of Belluno are increasingly populated by deer. The latest censuses ofHunting and Fishing Office they leave no room for doubt, since they have been counted 8100 copies in total, with 300 more ungulates in the last twelve months. The data is surprising, given that deer have always been rare in this area of Veneto and we must also add the specimens found in the National Park of the Belluno Dolomites.
The number is close to that of roe deer and in four years the growth was equal to 450 units. The total number of roe deer is instead decreasing, since it has gone from 14400 specimens in 2013 to the current 13800. In the Belluno area, deer and roe deer represent 70% of all the fauna surveyed: the woods are progressively "aging" and in this way deer are attracted to an increasingly wild environment, while roe deer are more accustomed to low vegetation.
Other animals registered by the Province are the chamois and the mouflon, while the census does not concern either wild boars or foxes. There are many numbers to investigate, but there is one certainty, the Belluno area is continuing to evolve and change.
