Antonino Cracolici, Councilor for Agriculture of the Sicily region, presented to theISPRA the proposed hunting calendar as regards the hunting season 2017-2018. Resident hunters will be able to carry out the activity in ATCs, with hunting only for migratory species that will be possible in no more than 4 Territorial Areas, except for ATC ME3 (Aeolian Islands), PA3 (Ustica), TP3 (Egadi Islands), TP4 (Pantelleria) and AG3 (Pelagie Islands).
There will be three pre-opening days, namely 2, 6 and 10 September, exclusively for wild rabbits, turtledoves e wood pigeons (the latter two only through temporary posting). The general opening has been set for September 17 for rabbits, foxes, wood pigeons, quails and blackbirds, while October 1 will be the turn of larks (rambling hunt), cesene, song thrushes, stone thrushes, woodcocks and aquatic birds. As for the deadlines, however, the hunt for the same aquatic will end on January 31, 2018, the 30th November the wild rabbit hunt will end, while the picking of blackbirds and quail will last until December 31st.
January 31 will also be the last day of hunting for the turdidae. The proposal included provisions relating to fox hunting, allowed from 17 September to 31 December of this year, both in wandering and batting form (teams must be formed by more than 5 hunters). Finally, wild boar hunting will be allowed from November 2nd to January 31st.
