On April 5 the Regional Administrative Court of the Marche rejected the appeal presented by WWF and from LAC (League for the Abolition of the Hunt) against the Marche hunting calendar. The Italian Federation of Hunting she was opposed to this environmental initiative and the ruling proved her right. The judges explained how the state discipline that delimits the periods in which the Italian regions can authorize hunting represents the minimum core for wildlife conservation.
Il hunting calendar 2016-2017 was judged to be respectful of the limits set by law, which is why the appeal of the two associations was not accepted. The TAR also underlined how the point of view of the Region and Federcaccia, according to which there are much more up-to-date studies on huntable species and their classification. In particular, the reference went to the report on the conservation status of the species which was adopted in 2014 in compliance with the Birds Directive.
The absence of a general ban on the hunting of the species that are part of the list SPEC admits its inclusion in the regional hunting calendar. Among other things, even ISPRA had shared one of the main arguments from which the Marche region to regulate the hunting activity, that is to say a serious and updated study of the conservation status to be implemented at a supranational level.
