2016 was the year of the monkey for the Chinese zodiac, while 2017 was the year of the rooster. With us in Italy, who are decidedly more conservative, we interrupted the alternation and once again confirmed the year of boar. Practically in every Italian region, from north to south, the emergency "sus scrofa". While in the past the encounters took place more close to rural areas, in recent times, the daring ungulates have pushed themselves into the urban perimeters, roaming dangerously in the middle of central roads and causing accidents, unfortunately even fatal. Every day on social networks we can read "post " which unequivocally testify to the worrying spread of the phenomenon and, precisely from the comments of users, the usual clear split between the two opposite sides is evident ... but up to here it is legitimate, everyone must have the right to express their opinion, even if it is of nonsense dictated by ignorance on the subject, but always with absolute respect for that of others. I must say with sincerity, and with little chance of being denied, that education and respect belong more to hunters than to the unidentified defenders of nature who, having no solid arguments, indulge in insults and threats, even rather colorful ones. and ridiculous.
But what does not seem justifiable to me, given the evident poor results achieved in this area, is the inconclusive and superficial attitude adopted by those who, on the other hand, should face and solve the problem, due to the role assigned to it. In the various Institutes and Bodies, created to monitor and manage the fragile balance of our faunal species, is it possible that they are unable to produce an effective solution? Or maybe they have found the solutions, but who should adopt them does not have the courage to do so? I do not want to believe that professional experts indicate as a strategy the distribution of birth control pills or the miraculous immuno-vaccine with the aim of sterilizing the animal, or other even more creative solutions .... I try to be serious and objective and I ask myself: if not there is money to plug the holes, to dispose of urban waste, which incidentally constitute a source of food for the wild, and for many other far more important social purposes, how will they find them to buy pharmaceutical products, to pay the people who distribute them on the territory? Furthermore, how would they intend to do this administration? By direct call with the presentation of the document or by spreading the product on the territory? But at that point there is no risk that some other ignorant animal, who cannot read and does not understand that the product is only for wild boars, could mistakenly take it? Or maybe there is a type of food that only wild boar omnivores like? If so, please tell us!
The various enlightened public administrations, which considered the solution of making agreements with private associations of citizens a victory, which with a sense of responsibility take charge of fixing the potholes in the roads, could not then do the same thing with us hunters ... after all we also throw (sorry we pay) the taxes in exchange for the services that we then do ourselves ... indeed we pay them twice as citizens and as hunters!
Moreover, and now I am making banal populism, could it not be made so that the meat of the wild, after already opportune and necessary checks, can go to the charitable canteens? I am sure that the Hunters, who are never to be confused with the poachers, will be happy to contribute in this way. I close by inviting everyone to reflect: while wild boars do their job very well, they find food where it is easier and colonize new areas that they increasingly need, given the high number of specimens that they have been allowed to reach, the Are our decision makers doing theirs as well?
