Thirteen cages were destroyed in one night, in the company of Giampaolo Cenacchi, in Serravalle (part of the municipality of Bank of the Po, in Ferrara), by unknown persons who have broken them making it impossible to repair them. “We have been fighting against it for years people who enter our companies at night - says Cenacchi -, without being able to stop them and explain to them that in this way they create enormous damage. We are really exasperated, if we think that the last few years have been at least about fifty cages destroyed, partly purchased by us and partly given to us by the Province, but we believe that these acts of pure vandalism are no longer tolerable ”.
It is the heartfelt denunciation of one of the many agricultural entrepreneurs in the area who see the cages, with which they defend themselves from the nutria, destroyed. Damage that is added to the damage "the otters - he continues - make us lose up to a third of the product of our company that produces cereals and rice in particular, on the latter product in some basins the damage exceeded 60%, forcing us to modify the crop plan ”.
The cages, when there are resources, are purchased by the Province and destined for farmers who request it, which together with the rifle is one of the two systems envisaged, by the regional resolution that provides for its eradication, to contain a population of otters which, according to Claudio Miccoli of the Reno and Po di Volano Area Service, is close to almost 700.000 unit (Il Resto del Carlino).
In a film by Peppone and Don Camillo, the gentleman called Don Camillo because he wanted to shoot Peppone in the backside with a shotgun; Don Camillo replied that he would use the small pellets for sparrows; well I believe that with some people who destroys the cages to capture the otters, the same treatment that Don Camillo wanted to do to Peppone is reserved!
