The numbers of the last two years
Scary percentages. There Bormida Valley is grappling with an exponential increase in wild boars, given that ungulates have recorded a growth of 200% in the course of just two years. We are talking about the area that develops starting from the Ligurian Alps, then entering the Ligurian Apennines for a certain stretch of the Savona hinterland, then continuing in Piedmont between the hills of the upper Monferrato and the upper Langhe, up to the Plain Po Valley where the Bormida flows into the Tanaro (east of Alessandria).
Potatoes and wine at risk
The damage mainly concerns, as is easy to imagine, agricultural companies. Those who produce wine are in great difficulty, as are those who grow potatoes, an activity that has now become a real luxury. Not even acorns, nuts, cabbage and many other winter vegetables are protected.
African swine fever
A strong stance came from Alberto Allineri, number one of the local ANLC: "As an association we have written to the National Commissioner for PSA. We can't take it anymore and we need to act before the foretold tragedies happen. We need to narrow the buffer zone and leave the teams with 21 people. In this way you can hunt and reduce the number of wild boars. More hunters equals more kills. We have all taken courses after courses, we are prepared."
