With reference to the recent statements released at the press conference by the regional councilor Roberto Morroni, Umbrian hunting federation believes that it is necessary, before taking official and definitive positions, to wait for concrete acts. That said, however, Federcaccia hopes that the ideas of the Regional Department for the Environment and Hunting will take into account the overall management of the agro-forestry-pastoral territory used for programmed hunting and, with it, of all huntable species.
In this regard, we reiterate the need, which can no longer be postponed, for a revision of regional hunting regulations, starting with the one concerning the wild boar species. We believe the Regional Wild Boar Management Plan is fundamental tool for the revision of the regional regulation relating to this type of hunting, as well as the only way to reach a correct planning of the collection of the species. The solution of the "emergency response", in fact, cannot represent a valid countermeasure to the problem of damage to crops, lacking in it - among other things - any principle of selection.
We recall that Federcaccia Umbra had already made an expert available to the previous regional council for the wild boar management: we obviously confirm our willingness to continue along this path, in the interest of all. We are convinced that it is correct, for the best management of all forms of hunting, reconcile sampling periods that take into account all hunting specializations, with particular attention at the beginning and during the final part of the season.
About the wild boar, for example, a plausible proposal and already formulated by us is that of the opening on the second Sunday of October - when many crops are still in place - and closing in January, with the possibility of some planned interventions for the improvement and completion of the culling, without prejudice to the logistical needs related towinter restocking and trapping activities, inherent to the small sedentary game.
Returning to wild boar hunting, we remind you that, every season, the work of wild boar teams is essential for the safeguarding of agricultural production. This happens throughout the year, not just for the short period - three months - during which, from national law 157/92, the sampling of the suide is allowed. The hunting world therefore remains the natural ally of the agricultural world and of the bodies responsible for compensating for any damage to crops.
