«Without being hunted we could have this year over a thousand more wild boars in the province of Siena to raid the fields of our farmers and jeopardize the safety of the roads of our territory ». It is the alarm cry launched byProvincial Farmers Union of Siena by the voice of the director Gianluca Cavicchioli after the sentence of the TAR of Tuscany, on an appeal by WWF, Lav and Lac, which suspended the hunt against the wild boar as a precaution until 17 September.
«Suffice it to say that in 2018 1085 wild boars were killed in control (Article 37 objective law of the Tuscany Region) with the shape of the hunt according to the data provided by the ATC of Siena - continues Cavicchioli -, thus containing the damage from ungulates but without definitively solving the problem. Let alone what could happen in 2019 without being able to take advantage of this containment measure.
Who will pay for the damage to our farmers? Who will feel responsible for jeopardizing ours culinary excellence which are engines of economic development and the main source of livelihood for many families? - Asks the director of Upa Siena -. Doing so is likely to nullify the work of concertation done between agricultural and hunting associations together with the bodies in charge. I hope that the Tuscany Region will finally give substance and operation to the scientific committee on the subject of ungulates to get out of this impasse that weighs like a sword of Damocles on the farmers' heads ”.
