Enhancement of meat
A specific and organized supply chain to enhance game meat from the area, guaranteeing its origin, quality and safety. This is the objective of the tender linked to European funding from the Development and Cohesion Fund (FSC) promoted by Abruzzo region, in particular by the Department of Agriculture, for the construction and adaptation of structures for the conservation and treatment of the meat of wild animals hunted during hunting or during wildlife control. The financial allocation foreseen for this call is equal to 450 thousand euros.
All the steps of the supply chain
“The rest and collection centers – explains the vice president of the Region with responsibility for hunting – will allow us to trace every step of the supply chain process, from the moment a wild animal is killed until the meat reaches the final consumer. For this reason – he continues – they represent a form of protection both from a health and traceability point of view, and at the same time will offer the opportunity to valorise game meat, considered delicious but sometimes neglected or intended for self-consumption”.
Biometric parameters and toilets
Among the types of intervention permitted in the notice, there are the construction or adaptation of masonry and plant works necessary for the adaptation of structures such as cold rooms, environments for the detection of biometric parameters and toilets; the purchase and installation of prefabricated buildings to be used for collection and parking centres. Furthermore, new machinery, compliant with health and hygiene regulations, for the conservation and preparation of game meat, as well as tools for cleaning and hygiene of the centre's premises, can be financed. Finally, technical design costs will be allowed, but only if they are contained within 6% of the total amount of the intervention and general costs up to a maximum of 20% of the investment, such as rent and utilities for the centre.
Wildlife containment
“The rest and collection centers – continues the vice president – will also allow us to support policies to contain wildlife and related damage to agriculture, encouraging the practice of selective hunting and control. The creation of a specific and organized supply chain – concludes Imprudente – will offer advantages both from an economic and environmental point of view, promoting the sustainability and well-being of local communities: game meat can become a significant economic resource for the territories, generating revenue for restaurants, local butchers and collection centers" (source: Abruzzo Region).
