A decisive meeting
A few days ago a meeting took place between the Regional Councilor for Hunting, Roberto Morroni, and the Coordination of wild boar hunting teams from Umbria, which follows an in-depth discussion already started some time ago. The Coordination proposed some changes to regional regulation no. 34 of 1999, relating to wild boar hunting, which were largely accepted by Councilor Morroni, especially those that go in the direction of increasing the killing capacity of the teams.
The changes in detail
Specifically, the changes that will be approved concern:
– The reduction of the minimum number of hunters for hunts from 20 to 15;
– Possibility of including, in each hunt, a maximum number of hunters not belonging to the team equal to 50% of the participants in the hunt itself;
– The possibility of carrying out joint sessions between the teams without any type of limitation or prior authorisation.
In order to strengthen the achievement of the objectives of limiting the wild boar population, envisaged by the Extraordinary Plan for the eradication of African Swine Fever (ASF), in parallel with the modification of the regulation, the intent of the Department is to include these regulatory innovations also in the Regional Plan for Urgent Interventions (PRIU) for ASF. The Department's commitment is to make these changes operational within a month.
Comparison table
A further request presented at the meeting concerns the possibility of remodulating the hunt in single form. In this regard, it was decided to start a discussion table with the hunting associations. The established method is to carry out a rigorous study of the needs of the different hunting methods to encourage non-conflictual cohabitation between wild boar hunters, with a view to significantly increasing the effectiveness of the harvest and achieving the objectives set out in the Extraordinary Plan . This discussion table will be activated by the Department within this month. “I express satisfaction – declares councilor Morroni – for the agreement reached thanks to the serious and constructive discussion developed with the Coordination of the Umbrian wild boar teams. The shared choices will contribute to determining a suitable context for a significant increase in the killing capacity of wild boars in line with the commitments that will arise from the soon-to-be implemented of the measures established, at national level, by the Commissioner for the fight against swine fever" ( source: Umbria Region).
