Hunting in Tuscany
The Regional Council of. has just concluded in Florence Federcaccia Toscana – Tuscan Hunters Union, dedicated almost entirely to the next Tuscan Regional Hunting Wildlife Plan. Management at the centre! This is the main theme of the work coordinated by the Regional President Marco Salvadori, focused on the analysis and structuring of the substantial proposal that Federcaccia Toscana UCT will present in future institutional steps on the contents of the future Regional Wildlife Hunting Plan. A precise and punctual work that involved numerous managers, technicians and collaborators of Federcaccia Toscana UCT, from which a document of approximately one hundred pages was finally derived, which covers all the topics inherent to the hunting activity and the wildlife-environmental management of the territory, which aims to help ensure breathing space and perspective for Tuscan hunters in the coming years.
Generation of biodiversity
In fact, hunting is an active part of the environmental issue, and good management can contribute positively both to generating more biodiversity and more resources to be used in the general interest. A structured proposal that takes into account an overall vision of the entire regional territory, from which we hope that the Tuscany Region with its competent Technical Offices can take inspiration. With particular reference to the proposals and opportunities highlighted in the text, necessary to overcome some critical elements such as the crisis of resident noble game and the management of ungulates, but also new possibilities that may derive from projects and new agreements with the agricultural world, and for the activation of the measures contained in the CAP; therefore of huge resources destined to have positive consequences for the conservation and management of wildlife and the environment. All this in a general context where the ATCs will have to be strengthened in their functions, and inserted into a new and more functional idea of governance.
A lively discussion
At the end of the lively discussion in which the Provincial Presidents of the Association were able to report their contribution on behalf of the Provincial Sections, in order to integrate and better punctuate the Regional proposal, the words of President Marco Salvadori were clear and determined: "Federcaccia Toscana- UCT, as the largest association, representing approximately 60% of hunters in the Region, wanted to do everything in its power to protect the future of hunting and hunters in Tuscany by investing time, resources and skills in the drafting of this document. It is now necessary to courageously make a change to restore hunting to a function of social interest, to virtuously reconnect "the threads" with the agricultural world, looking at the environmental dimension as an aspect of general interest, which will have to see more and more hunters active subjects and sentinels of the territory, also to prevent and combat any emergencies such as ASF. We sincerely hope that the other Tuscan hunting associations will also present their contributions as soon as possible, without lapsing, as unfortunately often happens in our world, into sterile and instrumental controversy which brings nothing to the cause of the hunters" (source: Federcaccia).
