Hunting: Poto? Nik responds to Zanoni, unfounded accusations about the alleged hunting pressures on Italian territory to the species considered in conservation difficulties.
In September, MEP Andrea Zanoni (ALDE) submitted a further question to the EU Environment Commission with a request for a written answer concerning the "serious threats to the conservation of wild birds in Italy due to hunting carried out in clear violation of the Birds Directive 2009/147 / EC ".
Following two other questions in September and October 2012, the Hon. Zanoni affirms that in our country management plans have not yet been implemented concerning 19 species of birds (which he lists in the last question) which are in an unfavorable state of conservation but which are subject to hunting and that in 16 Italian regions the the season opened early, as early as September 15st, instead of XNUMXth, allowing the hunting of species of birds in reproduction with their chicks in the nests (eg Wood pigeon) or in serious decline (Tortora and Quaglia).
And the answer has arrived. On 15 October 2013, the EU Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potocnik, wrote on behalf of the Commission that, after having examined the facts, according to the available information and data on basic concepts, there appears to be no overlap between the hunting periods. and those of reproduction and pre-nuptial migration. Furthermore, the Commission has not received any elements confirming the incompatibility with the Directive of seasonal and daily game bags established by the Italian Regions for the various huntable species. No sooner said than done.
