OLYMPIC PIT: The 2011 European Men's Olympic Pit competition, which crowned the Slovak Erik Varga (147/150) as king of Europe, had our standard-bearers as real protagonists in the junior competition. The result collected by the young shooters selected by CT Pera is an absolute record. The Azzurri have in fact occupied the podium by winning all the individual medals.
05/08/11 - There has been none for anyone. Having entered the final with a superb 124/125 and two points ahead of our best, the Russian Vignogradov also had to surrender to the Italian advance. In detail, Carlo Mancarella from Brindisi took the gold and the title of European Junior Champion with 144/150 around his neck.
Behind him, the other two teammates Valerio Grazini from Viterbo and Giulio Fioravanti (Forestale) from La Storta (RM), paired at 143, had to face each other in a play-off for the silver and bronze medals. In the very long shoot-off Fioravanti kept his nerves steadier and, with +12 to +11, won the silver forcing Grazini to settle for bronze. For them also the gold and the team title with an excellent score of 364/375, ahead of their Russian colleagues, silver with 353, and the English ones, bronze with 347.
Returning to the Senior race, the silver and bronze went, respectively, to the Czech David Kostelecky with 146 +3 and the Slovenian Bostjan Macek with 146 +2. Down from the podium Massimo Fabbrizi. The carabiniere from Monteprandone (AP), after gaining access to the decisive series thanks to a play-off with 5 other colleagues for only 4 places, in the final conceded too much to his opponents and had to settle for 5th place with the total score of 144/150.
One step away from the final the other two blues in the race. Rodolfo Viganò (Forestale) from Castello d'Agogna (PV) and Giovanni Pellielo (Fiamme Azzurre) from Vercelli both finished at 122/125, earning 9th and 11th place respectively. For Italy team bronze medal with an overall score of 367/375, behind the Czech Republic and Russia. “I am absolutely satisfied - said the coach Pera at the end of the race - The Junior is a historic result that moved me to tears but also the seniors performed very well. They all fired at a high level and for this reason I will confirm both teams for participation in the world championship which will bring us back here to Belgrade in September ”.
