Hunting in Puglia: the Apulian Regional Council has made some changes to the regional hunting calendar by adhering to the compatibility assessments of the "Key Concepts".
Yesterday, 18 October 2012, the provision of the Apulian Regional Council was published in the Official Bulletin of the Puglia Region n.151 with which some changes are made to the regional hunting calendar in order to adhere to the results of the studies carried out by the Offices of competence regarding certain aspects of the management document in relation to compatibility with what is defined by the “Key Concepts” document.
Although it has already passed, the document shows that the general opening of the Hunting Season on the third Sunday of September was theoretically compatible with the period of the end of reproduction and the dependence of the young on their parents, as defined by the document "Key concepts" , for all species subject to sampling.
As regards the hunting of anatidae, the same is reported from 03 October 2012 to 20 January 2013, in compliance with the provisions of ISPRA considering that most of the Apulian wetlands fall within SPAs; the identification of the closing dates for pheasant, hare, partridge, fox, hooded crow, jay and magpie is established in accordance with the provisions of National Law 157/92.
The closing date for the lark and blackbird species on 31 December is compatible with the period of the start of the pre-nuptial migration; for thelark the starting period of the sampling is postponed to the beginning of October 2012 in acceptance of the proposal formulated by the Provinces and by the Regional Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee.
The closing date of the sampling for woodcock species, cesena, song thrush and redwing, set at 20 January, a date confirmed despite the differing opinion of the ISPRA, is theoretically compatible with the period of the start of the prenuptial migration as defined by the document "Key concepts" considering that the species of turdidae that can be hunted in Italy are not among those considered to risk (no-SPEC) and that these species have a stable and increasing trend.
Following the indications of the Provinces and the Regional Wildlife Hunting Technical Committee, the beginning of the sampling of the "Woodcock" was postponed to 06 October and that of the turdidae (song thrush, redwing and cesena) to 03 October 2012.
The Quail species will be huntable until October 31, 2012 while the Moretta species, with the changes made, is considered among those "Temporarily protected on the regional territory".
As regards the species of lark, woodcock, lapwing, quail and turtle dove, as a precautionary principle suitable for the conservation of these species and their rational management, a prudential daily and seasonal game bag has been established which provides, respectively: for the Lapwing species, five daily heads per hunter; for the Lark species, ten daily heads and fifty total annual heads per hunter; for the Quaglia and Tortora species, five daily head and twenty total annual head per hunter; for the Woodcock species, two daily heads and twenty total annual heads per hunter, moreover, for this species it is expected that the collection begins at 07,00 and ends at sunset, in order to counteract the practice even more effectively illicit, of the "morning and evening mail".
In order to reduce the disturbance and stress conditions of both migratory and sedentary fauna, it has been established that throughout the hunting season, hunting can be carried out on three fixed days a week with the further provision that in January, in the SPAs, hunting can only be carried out on Wednesdays and Sundays.
