La Italian Confederation of Farmers (CIA) has returned to talk about the creation of wild boar supply chain in Basilicata, an increasingly close reality after the signing of the assignment contract by the Region to theSpecial Zooprophylactic Institute. The ungulates would turn into a resource after the countless damage caused also in this territory.
The association reminded the proposal of the Municipality of Tricarico (province of Matera), according to which the Region must coordinate the wild meat supply chain: for this reason the CIA has nominated the former salami factory in the Lucanian locality as a slaughtering and processing center. The numbers speak more than any words: since last year they have been demolished in Basilicata 7300 wild boars through control, a fact that makes the management approach to the phenomenon inevitable, in addition to limiting the damage suffered by the agricultural sector.
The Confederation recalled how wild boar meat is the symbol of a culinary tradition capable of attracting many tourists. In Basilicata there is a lot of it, but it is rarely local, given that restaurateurs want to avoid animals that do not meet the traceability requirements and the right hygienic-sanitary guarantees. The Lucanian supply chain, on the other hand, would guarantee every requirement, enhancing a traditional product of which the woods are rich.
