CLike every year, from mid-September for about a month, deer go in love.
In this period, in the woods, especially during the night, the vigorous cry of love, the roar, echoes. The bellow is the classic vocalization emitted in short succession by the male deer through a vibration of the larynx, in order to demonstrate all their strength and to conquer the harem of the females. The bellowing period generally lasts 3-4 weeks, during which the vocalization rate can vary considerably, from about 2 bellowing per minute to more intense periods that generally correspond to the occurrence of fighting between males.
The bellow provides objective information relating to the physical strength of the individual who emits it. In disputes between males it seems to have the function of showing one's fighting capacity by trying to avoid the potentially dangerous physical confrontation.
