Practical tips for keeping your dog clean hunting.
Assuming that the hunting dog it should not be washed too often, it is important to know the way for a general cleaning with the use of water. In spite of the collective imagination (it also complicates television), with which we imagine the clean and fragrant dog , our four-legged friends do not need frequent washing. Considering also the high costs to take him to a toilet, even if fully automated dog washes are spreading today, too frequent baths could irritate his skin and cause dermatitis. This is why this general cleaning operation must be done sparingly and above all with good organization. First you need to get your pet used to the bathroom from an early age, as the habit of water will make everything easier.
The necessary are: brush, comb, specific shampoo for dogs (although some also recommend that for children), balm for dogs, cotton balls, a sponge and a powerful dryer.
Before washing, it would be advisable to apply the cotton balls in the ears of the dog, in order to avoid the entry of water into the auricle which could cause some problems. Once this is done, the dog standing in a tub; subsequently, the body of the aniamle must be completely wet, paying maximum attention not to let water go into the ears.
Some veterinary advise not to wet the head of the dog and avoid washing it, just to avoid problems. When the animal's body is completely wet, you can proceed with the application of the shampoo in moderate doses, spreading it on the back and on the sponge. With the latter you soap the whole body, strifinando leggerm, ente to remove dirt and remove dead hair. Massaging the dog with the sponge for a few minutes, you can rinse the animal and, if necessary, repeat the operation with the shampoo, in case your friend is particularly dirty. After shampooing, you can proceed with the application of the conditioner, which once spread on the whole body (perhaps with your hands without using the sponge) must be left to act for a few minutes. After this period of time, the dog must be thoroughly rinsed. Drain the water and then dry the animal with a towel without rubbing too much. During these phases, you will see a lot of hair sticking on both the sponge and the towel: don't worry it's all dead hair that comes off naturally.
Once the excess water has been removed from the coat, a very powerful hair dryer must be used, as, depending on the length of the coat and the size of the dog, it will take some time to completely dry the dog. During the drying phase, care must be taken not to leave damp areas of the body, especially in winter: from time to time you have to caress the dog's body with your hand, in order to feel if there are any damp parts that have not been dried. for good. The hair dryer should not be too close to the dog, but at a distance of about 30 centimeters. Once the drying has been done, you can proceed with a good brushing to remove the dead hair. For owners of long-haired dogs, remember that the latter will tend to shed more hair than expected up to two / three days after washing, as the skin softens.
Bathing is an opportunity to observe the hair well (remember, however, that a certain loss of hair is physiological not only at the changes of the season) and the skin of the animal: redness, presence of dandruff, patches with thinned hair, opacity of the coat etc. In these cases, contact your veterinarian who will advise you on the therapy to follow, perhaps based on supplements to be administered to the animal for a certain period of time.
Once the animal is dry, proceed with cleaning the ears. This operation should be done not only when bathing, but regularly, at least once a week (even more frequently in the case of animals with long ears).
To clean the external pavilion: Dampen a cotton swab with cleansing milk (or with a special detergent for veterinary use) and rub gently, insisting on the parts where there is a greater accumulation of dirt. To clean the ear canal: after having introduced a special detergent for veterinary use into the ear, massage the external ear canal and remove with cotton what comes out of the ear. Important: never use cotton swabs. Let's say that the experience of the bango is a bit traumatic for the dog and therefore we must be patient and not show us nervous if the animal does not cooperate. We try to reassure him and at the end of this operation a prize can be a good thing.
