The weekend of Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 February 2016 was chosen by the Circolo Libera Caccia (ANLC) of Ceccano, in the province of Frosinone, for the holding of a amateur race on woodcocks. The event will take place in the dog breeding area ofTerritorial Hunting Area FR 2 "Patrica", to be precise in La Valle. The categories into which this Ciociara race has been divided are three, namely English, Continental and Spaniel's. The amateur event will start on Saturday 13 at 8 and in this case will only concern the Spaniel's category, therefore Cocker and Springer. The meeting was scheduled an hour earlier at the "Quattro Strade" bar in Patrica.
8 in the morning will also be the starting time of the race on Sunday 14, that is the one that will see as protagonists all pointing breeds. As specified by the Club, it is necessary that the dogs have all the documentation in order. The valid game, and it could not be otherwise, is only woodcock, consequently the behavior of the dogs in the competition in relation to the other species that may be present will be considered only to judge the correctness of the animal and its degree of training.
The land of the ATC dog breeding was chosen specifically because allows a substantial appreciation of the work of the races. Experience on the right way to tackle the terrain, adjusting the course, and where to look for the game is a basic (if not the most important) requirement of woodcock dog work. The performances that are required are usually those prescribed for hunting trials, to be precise in the text of articles 44 and 45.
The typical environments of the competitions involving woodcocks and particular game mean that the judge takes maximum account of the special aptitudes and experience of the dog. Furthermore, the judgment is based on very specific scores and qualifications. The highest qualification is "Excellent", followed by "Very Good", "Good", "Sufficient", "Poor" and "Insufficient". “Very Good” is also the minimum qualification for assigning first place in any type of test or race.
Among other things, in relation to the various evaluations, the judgment cannot fail to take into account the greater or lesser difficulties that the dog may encounter, such as those of a climatic and environmental type (absence of wind, rain, excessively hot temperatures, game judged as "difficult", unsuitable land or insufficient water), as well as those that are due to errors clearly attributable to the tenant alone.
