The discussions on roe deer of the Julian Pre-Alps they are not finished yet. There Venzone Hunting Reserve, in the province of Udine, has decided to respond to the proposal of the Park Authority, ie the establishment of protected areas to protect ungulates. Valerio Pituelli, number one of the Reserve, underlined how the proposal is as risky as it could make the years of collaboration between hunters and conservationists in vain. The idea would be to create contiguous areas, whose management would be entrusted to hunters and the park authority, even if Pituelli fears that in this way reserves could disappear in a short time.
The local hunting world is convinced that the decline in roe deer is due to poaching, an illicit activity that has the early closure of the hunt. The Venzone Reserve believes that the suggestion of the Park Authority may imply a limitation of the hunting activity, depriving the hunters of the management of the areas of their competence, as required by law.
The reserves destined to disappear are, in addition to that of Venzone, that of Chiusaforte, Resia, Resiutta and Moggio Udinese. Pituelli also recalled that there are specific hunting district plans, so there would be no need for new rules. In the end, another problem to be tackled urgently is that of the ibex, introduced by the hunters of Venzone in 1989 and 1991 and also in decline.
