In December of five years ago a group of hunters, engaged in the capture of hares, had been attacked by an anti-hunting commando in the countryside of Canicossa of Marcaria. The commando had also filmed the entire scene. On December 14, the first hearing of the trial he sees four people in the dock: Diego La Rocca, 37, from Voghera, Cristina Giudice, 27, from Chieri, Roberto Serafin, 28, from Seveso and Michael Leone, 28 from Parma. They are all accused of violence for preventing the capture of the hares by the hunters who participated in the so-called parade, organized by the Province and aimed at restocking these animals in the reserve areas.
The violence consisted in tearing the nets that had been placed to contain the hares, thereby releasing the animals. In addition, Michael Leone must also answer for aggravated injuries because, witnessing the parade of the hares, he hit one of the hunters in the back with a kick, procuring him injuries lasting more than forty days and the fracture of the 14th vertebra which caused him permanent after-effects. After the assault, the anti-hunting squad had vanished into the fields and, thanks to the fog, had lost track.
But, immediately afterwards, the manhunt had begun, in which the hunting guards had participated, together with the Carabinieri of Bozzolo, Sabbioneta and Viadana. It all happened shortly after ten in via Verga. At that hour about seventy hunters were engaged, without guns, in catching hares with nets. That morning the hunters were engaged in this capture but, for the first time, they found themselves in front of an anti-hunting commando. In nine, as already mentioned, they have sprung up from the fields and they began to threaten the hunters present with death. In particular, they took it out on the 66-year-old, who was freeing a hare from the net (The Gazzetta di Mantova).
