A real death of hares throughout the Spoleto area and even in Valnerina. This is what some hunters and hunting guards denounce, who look with a critical eye at the repopulation activities of the territorial areas of hunting and in particular of the ATC Perugia 2. Because at the base of the continuous finds of dead animals there could be their poor ability to adapt to the territory. A problem that is also economic: each specimen costs 150 euros plus VAT and considering that over a thousand are released in the territory, the risk is to throw away more than 160 thousand euros. The last hare was found Wednesday in Uncinano. «They phoned me - says Corporal Major Franco Bellachioma - to tell me that a specimen of hare that had just died had been found in the middle of a plot of olive trees. And it is only the latest finding ». «What we ask ourselves - continues Giuseppe Chiocci - is why, precisely in this period in which hare launches are carried out by the various ATCs and by other subjects for the repopulation of the species on our territory, we are witnessing the death of these animals. It is a fact that has always happened at this time of the year, for some years now. So one wonders: but are the animals that are introduced suitable for our territory? Or have they not been weaned properly and when they are left in the free state are they unable to survive? '
"We had some of the specimens we found analyzed - says Enrico Tuzi -, through the Asl laboratory of Spoleto they were sent to the veterinary clinic in Perugia, but the answer is always the same: these animals die of dysentery". In reality, veterinarians must limit themselves to analyzing only the contents of the stomach and part of the lungs as they cannot analyze the remains of an animal that does not have an owner, such as hares that are in the wild.
«We would like to know - says Pier Luigi Pettinari - the real cause of the end of these animals, also because each specimen that is placed on the territory costs the ATC, and therefore the hunters, 150 euros plus VAT. You can make a simple account if you think that only the ATC Perugia2 releases 1.080 copies on its territory ». And if most of these animals die within a few days after their release into the free state, the hunters get angry, considering that over 60% of a hunting license (460 euros per year) ends up precisely for the environmental management of the territory. and therefore also for the restocking of game.
«In reality we hunters - remarked Chiocci - we are a bit tired that breeding hares are released in the territory before they are analyzed in order to avoid this slaughter of animals, as well as the waste of public money. In fact, if sample analyzes were carried out on a group of animals that are about to enter the territory, one would know how they were raised, if they were given antibiotics, if they need a period of time before being completely left. free, and so on ".
